"Friendship through music"

Perth Choral Society is a large mixed voice choir of all ages and experience levels. It's a very friendly group and there's always lots of chat and laughter alongside the singing! Research has shown that being part of a choir has many proven benefits - it reduces stress, gives your body and brain a workout and improves self confidence.

We rehearse on Tuesday evenings from 7.30 to 9.30pm from September to March/April and normally perform two concerts per year, at Christmas and in the Spring. We also sing at local community events, usually in a smaller group.

If you would like to join us, there is no audition, just a commitment to learn the music and perform in the Christmas and Spring concerts. People usually join in September and January when rehearsals begin for the respective concerts.

You are very welcome to come to any one of our practices to see whether this is the choir for you. Just introduce yourself to any member of the choir, who will be able to help. Alternatively, speak to a member of the committee, who will be able to answer any questions you may have.

We look forward to meeting you!

Rehearsing Haydn's Creation

  • How often does the choir perform?
Normally two concerts per session, at Christmas and Spring. Some members of the choir also perform in community events.
  • Do you supply music?
Yes, this is included in the membership fee along with a music folder for performances. Your music should be returned after each concert.
  • How much does annual membership cost?
Fees for the 2024/5 season were £90 and fees for 2025/6 will be agreed at the Annual General Meeting on 16 September - they can be paid annually in September, or in two payments in September and January. Ask our membership secretary for discounted payments for those on benefits.
  • What is the dress code for concerts?
For our main concerts the ladies usually dress in black (long skirt or trousers and long sleeved tops) with a turquoise scarf which is supplied. The men wear black dinner suits with white shirts and black bow ties. Shoes are black and any jewellery should be discreet.
  • Do I have to attend every rehearsal?
Choir rehearsals are a vital part of our goal of providing excellent concerts. We understand that it may be necessary for members to miss the occasional rehearsal, but if this is necessary, please let your section rep know. We do hope that members will spend some time at home becoming familiar with the pieces so that we can minimise 'note-bashing' at rehearsals and concentrate on performance.
  • Can I support the choir without singing?
You can become a Friend of the Society with an annual minimum donation of £50. Each friend receives a ticket for one priority seat for each of our two concerts as well as refreshments at concerts in Perth Concert Hall. If you wish to become a Friend of the Society or make a one-off donation please email our membership secretary at fionaconnah@hotmail.com
